SAN DIEGO — After an exciting and action-packed home season, the Detroit Tigers hit the road, traveling to sunny California this week for six games, starting with a three-game series against the San Diego Padres.

The Tigers arrive in Golden State in good spirits. After a solid August in which the team went 17-11, its best single-month record this year, they have somehow managed to get back into the Wild Card conversation by winning series against the Los Angeles Angels and Boston Red Sox in their final game, 4-2 at Comerica Park last week. Overall, Detroit has won eight of its last 10 games and three straight series.

While they still have work to do to get closer to a playoff spot, the Tigers enter this week in fourth place in the American League Central, 8.5 games behind the first-place Cleveland Guardians and five behind the Minnesota Twins and Kansas City Royals fighting for the final wild-card spot.

This will be a tough test for the Bengals, as the Padres are busy trying to secure a playoff spot. After winning two of three games against the Tampa Bay Rays over the weekend and winning their previous five games, San Diego State sits in third place in the National League West, five games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in first place, but also holds the second Wild Card spot.

These two teams met in Detroit last July, with the Padres winning two of three games.
