(CBS DETROIT) A 32-year-old man from southeast Michigan was killed in a crash Saturday evening when his car overturned, officials said.

The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on South Stony Creek Road, southeast of Sumpter Road in Exeter Township, Monroe County.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, an investigation revealed that a 32-year-old Monroe man, identified as Zachary Zalenski, was traveling northwest on South Stony Creek Road in a burgundy Chevrolet Trailblazer.

The driver crossed the roadway and entered the southeast lane, losing control of the vehicle.

“Mr. Zalenski, in an attempt to regain control of the vehicle, overcorrected, leaving the roadway to the west and entering the ditch. The Chevrolet then overturned, striking a utility pole, which came to rest on its roof and facing east,” the sheriff’s office said.

Zalenski was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities say the airbags in his vehicle did not deploy.

Careless driving was also a factor in the crash, but authorities say it is not known whether intoxication was a factor.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office at 734-240-7541 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
